Top 10 Handyman Services Brentwood, CA Homeowners Need Most
After years of doing handyman work in Brentwood — Trilogy, Summerset, Heritage Park, Apple Hill, and just about every other neighborhood between Balfour Road and Lone Tree Way — a clear pattern shows up in the calls I get. The same ten or so jobs come up over and over. If you own a Brentwood home, there’s a good chance one of these is on your list right now.
1. Fence Repair After Delta Winds
This is, hands-down, the most common Brentwood handyman call. The Delta winds that whip through here every winter put real pressure on fence panels and posts. I do a lot of post replacements, panel patches, and gate adjustments. If your fence is leaning, sagging, or missing pickets after a windstorm, fence repair is usually a same-week fix.
2. Grab Bars and Aging-in-Place Work
Brentwood has three large 55+ communities — Trilogy, Summerset, and Heritage Park — and the residents of those neighborhoods are some of the smartest planners I work with. They’re installing grab bars, lever-style door handles, and brighter lighting before they need them, while it’s a small line item rather than a reaction to a fall. More on aging-in-place modifications here.
3. Drywall Repair
Brentwood homes are full of textured drywall — orange peel, light knockdown, occasionally hand-trowel — and the texture is where most DIY drywall jobs fail. The patch holds, but you can see exactly where it was made because the texture doesn’t match. I take the time to match it so the repair disappears under fresh paint.
4. Door Adjustments and Sticking Doors
Newer Brentwood homes have a specific problem: they were built fast, and door framing was sometimes the casualty. Within a few years, doors start sticking, latches stop catching, and weatherstripping falls apart. Most door repairs are 30-minute jobs once you know what you’re doing.
5. Deck Repair and Refinishing
Brentwood summers are brutal on decks. Boards crack, fasteners pop, and finish fades. I refinish decks regularly, and I do replacement boards where damage has gone too far for a refresh. Worth doing every 2–3 years depending on exposure.
6. Smart Home Installs
Video doorbells, smart thermostats, smart switches, and floodlight cameras are popular in Brentwood. Most look simple on the box — but doorbell wiring is sometimes nonexistent in newer homes, and “no neutral” wiring is a real issue for smart switches. I bring the right adapters and configure everything before I leave.
7. Dry Rot Repair
You wouldn’t think a town with dry summers would have dry rot, but it does — especially around windows on north-facing walls, under eaves where flashing has failed, and on deck framing. The fix is dramatically cheaper if it’s caught early.
8. Weatherstripping Refresh
When summer hits 100°F-plus, every gap in your weatherstripping is bleeding cool air. I do whole-house weatherstripping refreshes that genuinely lower utility bills. It’s one of the highest-ROI jobs in handyman work.
9. Light Fixture Replacements
Swapping out a builder-grade boob light for something nice. Replacing a porch fixture that died. Installing a fan-and-light combo where there was just a fan. Most of these are an hour each, and they add up if you bundle several together.
10. The General Honey-Do List
The catch-all category — TV mounting, picture hanging, shelf installs, blinds, cabinet hardware. None of these is a big job by itself. All of them together can take a Saturday and get done badly, or take a few hours of mine and get done right. Bundle your list and send it over.
What’s Different About Brentwood Handyman Work
Two things, mostly: the Delta winds (which create more fence and gate work than anywhere else I serve), and the prevalence of 55+ communities (which create more aging-in-place work). If your project is in either category, I’ve probably done a dozen exactly like it this year.
