Deck Repair & Refinishing

East Bay summers are brutal on decks. I keep them safe, sound, and looking great.

What I Do

  • Replacement boards (matching grain and aging where possible)
  • Railing repair and replacement
  • Loose or popped fastener repair
  • Stain and seal (especially before summer)
  • Step and stair repair
  • Light structural repair on smaller decks

The East Bay Deck Problem

Decks here see two punishing seasons a year. Summer brings 100ยฐF-plus afternoons that crack and check the boards. Winter brings rain that finds every gap in your finish. Skipping a refinishing cycle is the single fastest way to send a deck into early retirement.

I usually recommend an annual quick walk โ€” checking for popped fasteners, soft spots, and finish failure โ€” and a refinish every 2โ€“3 years depending on exposure. More on prepping decks for summer here.

What I Don't Do

Major structural deck rebuilds, decks over a certain height that require permits, or anything outside California's $1,000 unlicensed work limit. For those, I'll point you to a licensed contractor.
